With smoother edges and a tiny bit more mass in the pommel/guard, this would balance out better, and be more comfortable to cut with. The crossguard is a bit light/narrow, has rather sharp edges, and the edges of the raised disc insert in the pommel are quite sharp, and the recess deep. This would have been five stars if it weren't for the crossguard and pommel. There is a slightly blade-heavy balance to the sword (for a longsword), which could easily have been remedied given the design of the crossguard and pommel. The grip is sure, and although I've seen complaints about the seam where the leather is stitched together on these swords, mine wasn't bad at all. The blade is quite nice, albeit differing from a true, "typical" XVIa in fuller length and cross-sectional detail a bit. I like the XVIa configuration, and my Ronin arming sword was quite nice, so I took a chance on this during sale pricing. ![]() ![]() ![]() The classic cross guard is complimented with a standard wheel pommel.
